Abstract

Today, the aircraft insulation blankets are installed on pins that fixed on the structure by holes that weaken the structure, especially as there are still many holes drilled in the structure to assembly frames and fasteners on the panels. The proposed solution is an improved insulation pin composed by a slotted baseplate added on fastener that will cooperates the insulations pin to fix the insulation pin on the fastener. So, no supplemental hole must be drilled in the structure.

Abstract

Today, the aircraft insulation blankets are installed on pins that fixed on the structure by holes that weaken the structure, especially as there are still many holes drilled in the structure to assembly frames and fasteners on the panels.

The proposed solution is an improved insulation pin composed by a slotted baseplate added on fastener that will cooperates the insulations pin to fix the insulation pin on the fastener.

So, no supplemental hole must be drilled in the structure.


1. CONTEXT AND PROBLEM

For the aircraft thermal insulation installation on frames or in lateral panel junction area, non- standard metallic (aluminum and titanium) parts are used; which is a very costly and heavy solution.

Typical solution consists in: 2 fasteners + 1 specified metallic bracket + 1 standard insulation pin such as those shown in the here under picture.

Todays, one bracket is fixed to the structure with two dedicated rivets and an insulation pin mounted on it during blanket installation. The fixation of the bracket is realized through two holes drilled in the structure of the aircraft. But for each hole, the structure around the hole must be reinforced.

So, the use of this kind of fixation increases the cost and the weight of the aircraft.
