Abstract

During our daily work, we found it's hard to find a specific version with update on document or code version. Sometime we would like to find the history version in which the specific word or section was updated/added/deleted, we have to go through all history versions (maybe lots of history versions in several pages) to find the specific version including the updates. So we expect that a method or system could help to quickly retrieve the version including the updates we are looking for. This method is to resolve the problem and provide a way to find history version with word/section updates for update/add/delete.

This text was extracted from a PDF file.
This is the abbreviated version, containing approximately 53% of the total text.

Method to retrieve the expected historical version

This invention provides a new method to retrieve the expected historical document versions easily and quickly. It is done by maintain the multidimensional indexes when the document is being updated. And query the indexes to find the expected version among many historical versions when retrieving the document. In general, the inventions are as follows:

Maintain indexes of the document

Maintain indexes of the document

1). When the initial document version is created, divide the document to sections, assign section numbers and create the initial index.
2). Maintain section index and word index when the document is being updated. There are three types of updates of a document, add a section or word, modify a section or word and delete a section or word.

3). If a new section/word is added in a specific version, update the indexes to add the record for the section and word with the properties of the version, add operation, author and timestamp.

4). If an existing section/word is modified in a specific version, update the indexes to add the record for the section and word with the properties of the version, update operation, author and timestamp.

5). If a section/word is deleted from a specific version, update the indexes to add the record for the section and word with the properties of the version, delete operation, author and timestamp.
