Disclosed is a method and system for transferring data between smart devices using bump technology and device orientation. The method and system utilizes compass included in both sender's (first) smart device and receiver's (second) smart device to detect device orientations and transfer different files using bump technology.

In accordance with the method and system, as illustrated in figure 1, the smart device includes one or more file containers displayed on different regions of the screen. The one or more types of file containers are defined and categorized into different types by the sender, based on the display location of the one or more containers on the screen. The display location of the one or more file containers can be, such as, but not limited to, a left container, a right container, an upper container, and a down container. The smart device also includes a file manager to move different type of files to the containers based on sender preferences. Thereafter, the method and system calculates and identifies a proximal file container on the sender's device to a receiver device, by detecting orientation of the sender's device. Further, files stored in the corresponding container of the sender's device are transmitted to file container of the receiver's device.
