Purification of Cyclophosphamide (Crude)):

In a clean and dry reaction vessel Cyclophosphamide (Crude) (100 g. or 0.358 mole) was taken with 50 ml. of isopropanol and 50 ml. of water .The mixture was warmed at 30-35° C under stirring to get a clear solution. The solution was allowed to cool at 22 to 25°C and then treated with 5g of activated charcoal (5% w/w). The resulting carbon containing slurry was filtered through celite bed. The bed was further washed with 100 ml Isopropanol:water mixture (1:1 v/v). To the combined clear filtrate was added 300 ml of water and the resulting solution was then chilled at 0 to -4°C under stirring .The resulting solid product was isolated from the solution by filtration, washed with cold water (50 ml.) and dried under suction to get Cyclophosphamide monohydrate ,Yield 70 to 80 g. (70-80%)
