A Method and System for Generating a Customized Weather Alert

Disclosed is a method and system for generating a customized weather alert. The method and system automatically extracts weather related data from multiple sources and efficiently delivers customized weather information to the users. Further, the method and system provides the customized weather information services to the users based on a plurality of user defined rules to generate a customized weather alert.

In accordance with the method and system, a user can access a customized weather information services via a web application. The method and system provides a graphical user interface (GUI) to allow the user to input information, wherein the

information includes defining a plurality of user defined rules based on the plurality of criteria with parameters, values and logical operators. The user is able to create a new user defined rule which includes a variety of user chosen criteria, and also view the currently set user defined rule. In order to edit the user defined rules, the graphical user interface includes predefined lists for available parameters, values and logical operators to define and aggregate the targeted criteria. Also, the user defined rules can be modified to immediately change the selection criteria/parameters and efficiently delivers customized weather information to the users. Further, when the user defined rule is

saved, the rule and criteria information is updated into a back-end relational user database.

Further, the method and system allows the user to choose any number of input criteria and values to provide customized weather alerts to the user. The plurality of input criteria includes: A location criteria which includes reporting meteorological stations, buoys, and/or latitude/longitude points. A hourly observation parameter criteria which

includes, but not limited to temperature, dew point, relative humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, cloud cover, weather, accumulated precipitation,

wave heights and wave directions. Warning issue criteria from a government weather agencies or other international weather agencies. Forecasted values for the hourly observation parameter criteria from one of more numerical forecast models. Date criteria and time periods of interest criteria. Select duration for the criteria to exist. Alert

delivery method criteria such as email or text message. Select frequency/rate criteria to alert the user. For example, to alert the user about the weather for every X hours, hourly, etc.

In addition, the method and system allows the user to input user defined rules by selecting the criteria which includes logical operations such as "AND" or "OR" operations and also utilizes query wizards that are found similar in database software and client-server applications. Based on the user defined rules and criteria the method and system generates a customized weather alerts to the user.
