Adjustable PCI bracket

This invention is in the field of PCI brackets that can be adjusted to fit low-profile or full-height adapter slots. Industry computer systems vary in height based on planned use. The PCI IO adapters that install into these computer systems are either standard height or low-profile height. The standard height (also known as full-height) adapters will install only in computer systems that are tall enough to accommodate them. The low-profile (also known as half-high) adapters will install in either a computer system that accepts low-profile adapters or into computer systems that required standard height adapters. This is accomplished by installing a standard height IO bracket onto the low-profile adapter. The industry has addressed this issue of supporting low-profile adapters in either standard height or low-profile computer systems in two ways.

1. Created two unique parts for every PCI adapter - one low-profile adapter and another full-height adapter.

2. Designed a low-profile PCI adapter with a removal IO bracket that can accommodate either a low-profile or full-height IO bracket.

    This invention provides a mechanism to adjust the PCI adapter bracket to low-profile or full-height based on the needs of the system in which the adapter is to be installed by using an adjustable bracket on the PCI adapter that can be tailored to the height of the system's slot where the adapter is being plugged into. Disadvantages of existing solutions are:
1. Existing solutions are not convenient or greatly increase cost.

2. Creating two unique part numbers double inventory and management costs for the vendor and limits adapter reuse for the customers.
