A Method and System for Predicting Propagation Path of a Disease

A method and system is disclosed for predicting a propagation path of a disease. The method and system utilizes social and technological means for tracking a user's interactions with other people and also uses a past history and an understanding of the disease in order to better gauge the propagation path of the disease.

Firstly, the method and system predicts the propagation path of the disease by understanding the disease that is being tracked. In order to understand the disease, the method and system utilizes a rules engine to differentiate between different types of diseases and applies disease specific rules such as, but not limited to, severity of a disease, how a disease is contracted. Secondly, the method and system determines people who have been together during the times of sickness due to the disease. The method and system determines the information from multiple streams of data such as, but not limited to, data from multiple social sites which can indicate connections between people and more importantly can pinpoint when those people were together by postings or by the processing of meta data in pictures, calendar feeds used as input for figuring out who has been together, airline or transportation company feeds could be used and the data from those feeds interrogated upon the investigation of harsh diseases such as passengers traveling with Ebola, surveillance cameras, smart watches and mobile phones.

Subsequently, the data collected from various social sites and technological means is used to extrapolate relationships and determine a person in close relationship with a sick person during incubation periods of the disease. The close relationship can be, but need not be limited to, a conversation, meeting, sitting, staying with sick person, helping in treatment and the like. Further, the social media and technological means can also be used to perform image analysis for a picture without metadata to identify the person with the sick person. Additionally, the social and technological means can also summarize the person with details regarding increased or decreased probability of catching the disease on travelling to a particular location.

All of the data are used together to increase or decrease probability that specific people will get sick and then applies downstream to connections, changing the probability of sickness to a lesser degree.

Based on the collected data, the method and system, then, uses the information to predict the propagation of the disease more accurately.

Thereafter, once any disease is detected, the method and system provides visualization of predicted infectious or contaminated disease spreading path plotted in an electronic map.
