Traffic Authorities need to provide travel time information over and above the level of service information. Publishing travel time information is one of the key aspects of Traffic Management. Accurate travel times do help reduce congestion and decrease driver frustration. Traffic Authorities need to provide travel time information over and above the level of service information. Publishing travel time information is one of the key aspects of Traffic Management. Our idea focuses on a highly accurate system for calculating of Travel time calculation. This system would utilize real time and predicted traffic information to improve the accuracy of travel time information. It uses the classifier model in-case the real-time traffic information and historic delay information is available otherwise probabilistic model to generate the wait time at traffic signal, toll booths. It will also integrate to the event systems to compute impact of various events such as accident, gathering, etc on travel time.

Fig. 1 shows the system context of the Smarter travel time intelligence solution . It consists of various Entities(Actors) and Relationships between them . The Traffic Data entity provides on-demand geographical visibility , analysis and reporting for current , future and historic traffic data . It transforms the multi-source traffic data into a centralized traffic information system and offers the ability to interact with traffic devices entities to obtain status and live feeds. The Operational Database entity maintain the segment wise travel time data generated and traffic prediction data .Road Network Data is configured during the initial infrastructure to translate the road network information to graph which is stored in the persistent storage. The Road Network Data utility will listen to road network changes and update the underlying structures . Utilities are provided to move part/full graph to application memory and incorporate any changes in the road network. The Travel Time User Interface utility will call the back-end algorithms to generate the travel time options for the given source-destination requested by the user and will be responsible for displaying the same information. Travel Time Publish utility is gateway for external systems to leverage the periodic segment-wise travel time generated by the system.
