The method detects various changes in application usage patterns, evaluates the application user's level of intent and a need in using new discovered functionality and predicts the requirement for new application feature with some level of confidentiality.

Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining methodologies focus on extracting useful knowledge from data. Two specific problems that IBM* Research is currently addressing, for example, are customer targeting and business metric forecasting. To be competitive in the software business, it is important for solutions and applications not only to meet current customer expectations and requirements but also being able to predict new features, functionality, and requirements as a reflection of customers' intentions backed up by market trends and demands.

    Too often new customer requirements are emerging because of some changes in the business flow, integration flow, market best practices changes, new trends in conducting the businesses, dependency changes in the integration pipeline, etc. Those changes are not specifically reflected yet in some new features requirement documents, and thus they cannot be implemented directly from the referenced documents. However, the customer might have a strong intent of using those features or applying new approaches or has already started using those features by introducing some workarounds to the existent processes or changing the data flow, etc.

    How can one dynamically identify new emerging application features and functionality requirements? Requirements that are not formulated or formalized by the customer yet as such but indicated by definite usage intent.

Proposed here is the intelligent method for predicting new and emerging application feature requirements by mining the customer intent of usage, identified changes in the application usage patterns and user system interaction, and backed up by matching searches of relevant market trends.

    Proposed here is a method for recommending and predicting new application features requirements. The method detects various changes in application usage patterns, evaluates the application user's level of intent, and a need in using new discovered functionality and predicts the requirement for new application feature with some level of confidentiality. This method is based on temporal information clustering model for detecting and predicting emerging application requirements. The detection model is applied during unstructured data analytics to detect new emerging application features and evaluating the user's intent and need of using detected new features. Backed up by most recent relevant market trend analysis, the new application features can be proposed with a certain level of confidence. New application detected feature with extracted supportive evidences provides the foundation for producing new application requirements.
