Abstract

The invention provides an improved design of mounting for high mast lighting. The fixture includes an electrical enclosure receiving the wiring and is fixed to the mast. The optical enclosure is mounted below this enclosure via a mounting pipe. The mounting pipe is immovably affixed to the optical enclosure and is locked in place to the opening in the electrical enclosure using a set screw. Sealing of the electrical and optical enclosures against moisture is provided where the mounting pipe enters the electrical enclosure. The design allows unrestricted rotation of the optical enclosure with to 360 degrees, lockable in any position, without opening the electrical or optical enclosures.

BACKGROUND

The invention relates to high mast lighting and to optics therefor. High mast systems contain an optical subsystem, a mounting and an electrical enclosure. The optical subsystem is required to be rotated relative to the mounting to adjust light distribution. This rotation introduces several problems to be solved such as twisting of wiring and problems with sealing of the optics. The rotation must be capable of continuous adjustment and then be locked in place at the correct location. The assembly must also be structurally sound, provide good sealing, and be able to withstand vibration and wind loads. There is therefore need for better designs to provide the above functionalities.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The invention as illustrated in FIG. 1 and 2 provides an improved design of mounting for high mast lighting. An overall view of the lighting fixture design is shown in FIG. 1. As shown in FIG. 1 the fixture includes an electrical enclosure receiving the wiring and is fixed to the mast. The optical enclosure is mounted below this through a mounting pipe. The mounting pipe is immovably affixed to the optical enclosure and is locked in place to the electrical enclosure using a mechanism such as a set screw. The design allows unrestricted rotation of the optical enclosure with to 360 degrees, lockable in any position. Adjustment of angle of rotation about the vertical is facilitated by graduations on the optical enclosure and a reference marker on the electrical enclosure. Alternatively, the graduations could be placed on the mounting pipe or a suitable fixture attached thereto. In other alternative designs, the graduations and the reference marker could be interchanged between the optical and electrical enclosures.
