While investigating solutions that allow a user to select a location in a graphical user interface (GUI), including mobile user interface (UI), a need is surfaced to quickly select a specific location. This often includes starting at a very general level and working towards more specificity, even down to selecting a building, a block, a floor for various purposes such as, for example, printer installation, time zone selection, meeting room reservation, mapping applications, etc. There needs a method and system that provides more efficient UI input apparatus for navigating hierarchically organized data.

Disclosed is a method and system for providing an interactive radial input selector for navigating hierarchical data. The method and system proposes a new way of acquiring user input in order to select geographical locations quickly starting from a large geographical area and limiting down to a specific desired location in an efficient manner. The new way of acquiring user input is achieved by using a GUI component that consists of a central selection item, surrounded by an area of white (empty) space, further surrounded by associated plurality of selection items. The GUI allows the user to navigate through the plurality of selection items and select any of the desired item so as to view additional information associated with the selected item.

In accordance with the method and system, one or more actions such as hovering, clicking, pressing on a mobile application, when performed by a cursor in the white space, all the selection items (central and surrounded) and displayed in an usual manner such as small icons, first letter in the name identifiers. Subsequently, when the one or

more actions are moved towards the plurality of surrounded selection items from the central selection item, the surrounded selection items dynamically grow larger in size by displaying additional associated information. Alternatively,

when the one or more actions are identified, the plurality of selected items may also position towards the cursor, making it easier to select while minimizing the cursor movement. Additionally, when the user clicks on at least one of the plurality
