Quick Change Rail

This disclosure generally relates to a patient lift mechanism. More specifically, but not exclusively, the disclosure relates to a rail assembly used for suspending a patient lift mechanism. The rail assembly includes a quick change section configured to lower the patient lift mechanism with respect to the rail assembly.

A healthcare facility may be equipped with a patient lift mechanism to raise or lower a person supported on a person-support apparatus. The patient lift mechanism may be suspended from a ceiling using a rail assembly.

This disclosure describes an overhead rail assembly configured to support a patient lift. In one embodiment, the overhead rail assembly comprises of a quick change section configured to move up and down relative to the ceiling. The ability of the quick change mechanism to lower the lift further allows for the technician and others to reach the lift and to control the associated operation with the lift. The overhead rail assembly includes a ceiling mountable rail, a carriage mounted for displacement along the rail, a quick change section, a moving mechanism, and an end stop mechanism. These components are assembled together to form the overhead rail assembly. The quick change section is may be similar to the ceiling mountable rail in structure or is may be a small section of ceiling mountable rail coupled with the moving mechanism and the end stop mechanism to function as the quick change section. The functioning of the quick change section being a part of overhead rail assembly will be discussed in the following embodiments with the help of figures.

An embodiment of an overhead rail assembly 100 configured to support a patient lift is shown in Fig. 1. The overhead rail assembly 100 includes a ceiling mountable rail 120, a carriage 130 mounted for displacement along the rail 120, a quick change section 140, a moving mechanism 150, and an end stop mechanism 160. The ceiling mountable rail 120 may be mounted directly on or immediately under the ceiling 110 in order to achieve the greatest possible lifting height. The ceiling mountable rail 120 can be of any shape known in the art and it is evident to a person of ordinary skill in the art that the shape of the ceiling mountable rail 120 will not affect the functioning of the

overhead rail assembly 100. Further, the ceiling mountable rail 120 comprises of a groove to hold the carriage 130 of a patient lift.

The patient lift includes a carriage 130 including a pair of wheels that cooperate with the rail 120 for a horizontal displacement of the carriage 130 along the rail 120. The carriage 130 includes a housing (not shown in figure) that further comprises of an electric motor, a pair of rollers, and a lifting belt. The carriage 130 is configured to move along the rail 120 to transfer the patient from one place to other or to assist a caretaker in changing the position of a patient. The carriage 130...
