Abstract

Disclosed is a multi-piece, detachable cable clamp that would allow the operator to secure a locking piece to the rack and secure a latching piece to the cable bulk wire prior to routing the cable to the side of the rack. The latching piece would be latched into the locking piece using one hand.

Detachable Cable Clamp

The typical method for fastening cables in the sides of a rack is to route the cables in the rack and then use Velcro* ties to secure the cables to holes in the rack sides. This requires the operator to hold the cable bundle in place on the side of the rack while trying to wrap the cable tie around the cables and the rack slots and fasten it in place. This is cumbersome, difficult, and time consuming, and requires room for two hands and arms. Many installations do not have adequate room for the operator's hands and arms.

Disclosed is a multi-piece, detachable cable clamp that would allow the operator to secure a locking piece to the rack or other fixed bracket or chassis, (prior to installation, if necessary) and secure a latching piece to the cable bulk wire, in free air space, prior to routing the cable to the side of the rack. The cable would then be routed to the side of the rack and the latching piece would be latched into the locking piece. This could be accomplished with one hand, if needed. A simple latch release mechanism could be used to separate the pieces and allow removal of the cable (see Figures 1 and 2 below).
