Abstract

Normally the alarm systems have a static list of people to be notified (via sms, phone call, email, etc) as soon as a triggering event is detected. This list is scanned and processed according to a fixed predefined order. This current solution is not the best and the most efficient way of handling the alarm system notification. A smarter way of handling the list of notified people might be advisable.

The proposed solution, to be included in an alarming system, allows to dynamically handle the sequence of people present in the alert notification list, and select the best contact way. This list is periodically and dynamically rearranged by changing the order of the people, according to their distance from the alarm location or according to any other selection criteria (such as the person is reachable by phone or not, he is connected to the network or not and so on). In case of alarm trigger that requires the presence of a person locally, the closest people available, present in the list, will be alerted first and then the people far from the location. The target of the notification can be selected from a wider pool, in a dynamic way, based on the distance from the alarm location and on other characteristics, such as for example the traffic, the person "characteristics" (age, driving license, systems connection...) and so on. The smart system explained hereafter is based on the evaluation of a set of characteristics (it might not be limited to the disclosed ones) in order to redefine and periodically update the priority of the people in the notification list of an alarm system.

A set of characteristics is associated to each person as soon as he/she is added into

the alert notification list. First of all the distance from the alert place, the time to get there (also considering the traffic), the age, the network presence, the needed skill.

According to the alert type these characteristics are weighted and the notification list is updated dynamically.

The characteristics of the people to be notified can be easily evaluated:

GPS and/or A-GPS positioning are included in smart phones and the position can be shared among enabled people.

The traffic information between a starting location and a destination location is available over internet or other systems (like the ones use by car navigation systems).

The network connection either to a private network or to internet can be detected by queries.

Other characteristics need to be manually added, such as the age or the license of driving.

Also a "delegation" mechanism might be considered . If a person in the list knows that he is not available, he can select a delegated person to be alerted in place of him, and the characteristics of the delegated person are considered.

Each of the characteristics is taken into account based on a weight factor and a final

weighted score...
