learn to press with a certain amount of force. An added advantage of the force button is that, given the fact that it is giving the user real time feedback on the force they are exerting, and how close they are to activating the button, they can also back out of the button press, unlike in a touch and lift scenario. In the case of the force button, if the user has not pressed hard enough to activate the button press, it will not register as a press.


5. General Description

The invention is an interactive element on a force touchscreen that should be distinguishable to the user. This interactive element could take many forms as explored in figure 2. To ensure the user gets feedback on the press, the button would need to be animated and would change or fill in as it is pressed. The rate at which the button changes would be controlled by force exerted by the user. The user feedback could take a variety of forms. Figure 1 shows one example. As the user pushes the button onscreen, the button fills up. Once full, the press is registered. The rate at which the button fills is controlled by the force exerted, hence a strong push would fill it up and register quickly, whereas a weak push would take longer, or not...
