Abstract

The present disclosure relates to uses of amphiphilic copolymers. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to uses of amphiphilic copolymers in oral care compositions, as well as for retaining active ingredients on a substrate to which they are applied, and for inhibiting microbial growth on substrates. The present disclosure also relates to products comprising the amphiphilic copolymers and their methods of manufacture.

Uses of Amphiphilic Graft Copolymers in Oral and Dental Care Products Abstract

[0001]The present disclosure relates to uses of amphiphilic copolymers.

Background

[0002]Modern oral care products are typically used by consumers to maintain a good level of oral hygiene, as well as for cosmetic and organoleptic reasons. Such products can therefore clean food and debris from teeth and the oral cavity and prevent the growth of microbial organisms that can cause tooth decay and other health issues. From a cosmetic point of view, oral care products can be used to improve the visible appearance of teeth and control malodour from the mouth. Consumers demand products that are multifunctional in giving a number of these benefits, as well as delivering them for longer.

Summary of the Disclosure

[0003]This disclosure details an invention suitable for that solving the challenges discussed in the Background.

[0004]According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided an oral care composition comprising:

(i) at least one amphiphilic copolymer; and

(ii) one or more diluents, excipients or carriers;

wherein the amphiphilic copolymer is:

a) a graft copolymer comprising a hydrophobic straight or branched chain carbon-carbon

backbone having at least one pendant hydrophilic side chain attached thereto, or

b) a cross-linked/network copolymer comprising at least two hydrophobic straight or branched chain carbon-carbon backbones cross-linked to each other by at least one hydrophilic side chain.

[0005]According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a process for the preparation of an oral care composition defined herein, said process comprising dissolving or dispersing an amphiphilic copolymer defined herein in one or more cosmetically acceptable diluents, excipients or carriers to form a homogenous product.

[0006]According to a third aspect of the present invention there is provided an oral care composition that is obtainable, obtained or directly obtained by a process defined herein.

[0007]According to a fourth aspect of the present invention there is provided the use of an amphiphilic copolymer defined herein in an oral care composition.

[0008]According to a fifth aspect of the present invention there is provided the use of an amphiphilic copolymer defined herein for retaining at least one active ingredient on a substrate to which the amphiphilic copolyme...
