Filler Side-rail for Person Support Apparatus

This disclosure generally relates to person support apparatuses. More specifically, but not exclusively, the disclosure relates to gap-filler side for the person support apparatus.

Generally, a healthcare facility is equipped with a number of person support apparatuses. These person support apparatuses are required to support a person (patient) under medical assistance. A person support apparatus generally includes a deck section and a plurality of side-rails attached to the deck section. The deck section is adapted to articulate, to adjust the patient in multiplicity of positions, such as but not limited to, a sitting position, a lying position, and/or the like. The plurality of side-rails are adapted to prevent falling of the person, during these positions of the deck section. In conventional person support apparatuses, the plurality of side-rails may include a first side-rail and a second side-rail mounted on the deck section, such that a clearance gap is defined between the first side-rail and the second side-rail. In some circumstances, it may be desirable to reduce or eliminate such gaps.  Therefore, these exists a scope of improvement in the person support apparatus.

The disclosure generally relates to person support apparatuses. The person support apparatus according to one embodiment includes a main frame, an articulation deck, a first side-rail, a second side-rail, and a gap-filler side-rail. The articulation deck is structured and arranged on the main frame. The articulation deck includes a peripheral portion. The first side-rail and the second side-rail are attached to the peripheral portion of the articulation deck. The second side-rail is spaced apart from the first side-rail. Each of the first side-rail and the second side-rail includes an inner face portion and an exterior face portion. The gap-filler side-rail includes a first end and a second end. The first end is pivotally attached to the exterior face portion of the first side-rail. The gap-filler side-rail is pivotally movable between a folded configuration and an unfolded configuration. In the folded configuration, the second end of the gap-filler side-rail abuts against the exterior face portion of the first side-rail. In the unfolded configuration, the second end of the gap-filler side-rail abuts against the exterior face portion of the second side-rail.

A perspective view of one embodiment a person support apparatus 100 with a gap-filler side-rail 110 in unfolded configuration, is shown in FIG. 1. The person support apparatus 100 includes a main frame 102, an articulation deck 104, a first side-rail 106, a second side-rail 108, and the gap-filler side-rail 110. The main frame 102 is the base structure of the person support apparatus 100 and provides a mounting base for mounting various components of the person support apparatus 100.

The articulation deck 104 is structured and arranged on the main frame 102 to support a pe...
