Abstract

Disclosed is a feature in an online web meeting/training tool that automatically detect the non-active(dozed off) remote participants by observing their behavior for certain time. The observation module can be started by the tutor at any time in the on-going training/meeting and find those non-active remote participants and notify the tutor/participants, so that the tutor can keep the participants focused in the on-going meeting. By notifying the participant, the participant becomes more focused and concentrate in the training.

System and method to find and notify remote participants who are not actively participating in an online web meeting.

In today's world, training happen remotely with the help of an online tutor to train students. Also, most of the organizations conduct training remotely using online collaboration tools. Online class rooms are growing in a fast pace with tutor and participants/trainees located remotely. Location really doesn't matter for trainees to find an expert tutor and join his class. The same is applicable in an Organization with clients, office branches located in different locations. These training happen using online collaboration tools. However, the training is only effective when the tutor comes to know the dozed-off or non-active participants. It is very essential for a trainer to find out whether the participants are actively listening or not in the on-going meeting, so that he can take certain actions to keep the dozed off participants focused. The tutor can then take certain actions like change the way of teaching, make it more interesting, make the training interactive, pay more attention to non-active participants in the on-going meeting.

The current collaboration tool doesn't provide much data about the non-active participants. It becomes very difficult for the tutor to find out whether the trainees are focused or not as the participants are located remotely. A survey or poll will not help here as it is conducted much later at the end of meeting.

The feature enables the trainer in an online web meeting to automatically detect the non-active(dozed off) remote participants by observing their behavior for certain time (the observation module can be started by the tutor at any time in the meeting) and notify the tutor/participants, so that the tutor can keep them focused in the on-going meeting. By notifying the participant, the participant becomes more focused and concentrate in the training.

Solution: The feature provides a way for the online collaboration tools which has more number of remote participants to find out the non-active remote participants based on the below way.

Consider a class room with remote participants. For certain time period, observe the behavior of all participants and intimate the trainer/participant, if they are non-active. The non-active participants are determined in the below way:
