DISCLOSURE

BACKGROUND

The disclosure is directed to a suspension mat for a vehicle seat and, more particularly, a suspension mat that is flexible while allowing for stable attachment of accessories.

DESCRIPTION

FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate portions of a seat frame assembly 10 that may be installed in a motor vehicle. The assembly comprises horizontal and vertical frame members 12 and 14, respectively that define a seat back region 16 therebetween. Suspended within the seatback region 16 is a suspension mat assembly 20. The suspension mat assembly 20 comprises a suspension plate 21, constructed from a series of intersecting support members 22, that is configured to provide distributed support to the passenger. The suspension plate 21 may be constructed of any molded composite material exhibiting the requisite durability and support characteristics. Mounting wires 24 extend horizontally and are connected to the suspension plate 21. The mounting wires and the suspension plate are preferably attached via over-molding of the composite material utilized to construct the suspension plate 21. The mounting wires 24 include hooked end portions 26 extending outwardly from the suspension mat assembly 20 to engage attachment openings 28 in the vertical frame members 14 for support of the assembly within the seatback region 16.
