Abstract

Problem

Cab fare is dependent on the amount of time the customer spends in the taxi and the distance travelled between the source and the destination. With the emergence of driverless smart cars and improved navigation controls, a method is needed to apply these technologies to improve customer services.

Solution/Novel Contribution

The novel contribution is a system and method to provide users/taxi customers with the option of faster navigation through traffic when paying a higher, premium fee. At the same time, to accommodate the premium paying users, the system can offer further discounts to select users who agree to take alternate routes.

Method/Process

Internet of Things (IOT)-enabled smart automobiles continuously update location details to a central server, which develops a real time congestion-based traffic map. If the taxi user agrees to pay a premium, the system adds navigation route blockages on the preferred priority route for the incoming controllable cabs/smart automobiles to prevent additional vehicle movement on that route.
