A method and system is disclosed for providing in-situ interactivity for native advertisements (ads) without interrupting a user’s experience of content consumption on a parent web page.  When the user clicks on a stream advertisement (ad) unit on a desktop or a mobile web browser, the method and system provides a descriptive ad experience with a larger canvas pop-up floating over the content of the stream ad unit.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for providing in-situ interactivity for native advertisements (ads) without interrupting a user’s experience of content consumption on a parent web page.  When the user clicks on a stream advertisement (ad) unit on a desktop or a mobile web browser, the method and system provides a descriptive ad experience with a larger canvas pop-up floating over the content of the stream ad unit.  The content remains semi-visible but out of focus.  The method and system also allows the user to close the transitory ad experience at any time and resume content consumption on a publisher’s parent page.

In an embodiment, the large canvas pop-up floating over the content of the stream ad unit provides description related to a product’s features in an engaging manner along with social reviews/ratings.  Further the large canvas pop-up also provides mechanisms for conversion such as, but not limited to, purchasing the product, contacting an advertiser, a sign-up or registration.  Thus, the method and system is particularly well-suited for product ads requiring few clicks for conversion and for ads with lightweight landing pages.
