Abstract

The invention proposes a system and method for automated and adaptive configuration of namespace of an open platform communications-unified architecture (OPC-UA) server. The system utilizes a control network with an ethernet global data (EGD) protocol for adaptive configuration of the server. The control network configured with an EGD protocol is used to communicate data, revision status and messaging configuration updates. The configuration revision is communicated to the control network via EGD. The control system with adaptive features receives the EGD for monitoring the active revision. When a difference is detected between the active and current revisions, the system fetches the new configuration from the configuration owner and adapts the OPC-UA namespace. The system and method are not only fast, but would save manpower, eliminate manual errors with more reliable data and require less interaction by the operator.

BACKGROUND

The invention is generally related to power controls and in particular to an open platform communications-unified architecture (OPC-UA) server system. OPC-UA is a protocol used for accessing information or data from a control system. Currently, if any changes or updates are made to the architecture of the control system, corresponding changes or updates are manually configured in the OPC-UA server. An engineer is required to intervene into the system and probably reboot the server to ensure reconfiguration of these updates or changes. There is a need for an automated solution for the OPC-UA server to adopt the changes or updates made to the control system configuration.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The invention proposes a system and method for adaptive configuration of namespace of an open platform communications-unified architecture (OPC-UA) server. The system utilizes a control network with an ethernet global data (EGD) protocol for adaptive configuration of the server, as indicated in FIG. 1. The control network such as unit data highway (UDH) with an ethernet global data (EGD) protocol is used to communicate data, revision status and messaging configuration updates. The configuration revision is communicated to the control network or UDH, via EGD. The control system with adaptive features receives the EGD for monitoring the active revision. When a difference is detected between the active and current revisions, the system will fetch the new configuration from the configuration owner, such as a controller, and adapt the OPC-UA namespace as shown in FIG. 1.
