Abstract

Disclosed is a system and method by which an automobile can perform verification of whether the driver is carrying a valid license by reading and authenticating the validity of the license. The same concept can be applied to verify whether the driver has automobile insurance, is carrying credit cards, passports, or any item detectable by a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) reader. Each single item in the list can be turned on/off from the console inside the car.

Automobile Enablement to Detect Whether the Driver is Carrying a Valid Driver's License and Insurance

Currently, the detection of drivers with expired, revoked, or even no license is left to random police checks.

The novel contribution is a system and method by which an automobile can perform verification inside the car (that is, without swiping a card in the reader), of whether the car occupants are carrying a valid license, or any item with a chip, listed in the chip detection console inside the car. The system then informs the driver as to whether the items are not present or expired.

The system performs driver license verification in one of two embodiments. The first is an Internet-ready automobile that reads the information from the card and verifies it with a remote connection to the Department of Motor Vehicles' (DMV) database. The second is through storing the driver's record in a chip embedded in the driver's license card. The automobile contains a card reader to collect the information.

If the card verification fails, then the car remains functional; however, the on-board console notifies the driver of the failure(s). If mandated by authorities, police can also be alerted by blinking lights.

The same concept can be applied for automobile insurance.

The following implementation makes this possible:

1. A radio frequency (RF) reader device scans the interior perimeter of the car

2. The scan searches for an RF chip on all driver license(...
