FIELD OF INVENTION

The invention generally relates to computed tomography (CT) scanners and more particularly to CT scanners with an improved radiation focus.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Present day CT scanners generate a conical beam centered at the center of rotation. The invention enables focus and mobility of the beam adjusted by rotating the tube and sliding the detector on the rotor ring. In several instances, regions of interest may be off-center, or out of normal focus of the conical beam. In such instances, portions of the body other than the regions of interest, and in several cases, the entire field of view is exposed to large doses of radiation in order to acquire and reconstruct a small region of interest that is off center, for example, spine, hip joints, knees, and the like.

Hence there exists a need for CT scanners that reduce the exposure to portions of the body other than the regions of interest.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The invention provides 1) Sliding the detector on the rotor changing its relative position to the X-Ray tube. 2) Swiveling the Xray tube to aim the beam at the detector. .

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

According to the embodiments described herein, CT detector is designed to enable focusing the majority of the radiation from a beam generated during a CT scan, to a region of interest, thereby minimizing the radiation dose to organs outside this region of interest.
