Abstract

A graphical user interface and method are provided to capture packets on a next generation security appliance platform which reduce the steps to be performed, matches the mental model of the user and aides the user in visualizing how the application and backplane ports are associated with each other. The user has the ability to visually pick and choose the ports for capturing the packets. This graphical user interface has several advantages. By presenting the relationship of logical devices and interfaces, users can figure out what might go wrong and consequently do more efficient capture. With this user interface, users can create a capture session that includes multiple capture points, and rerun a capture.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

     Packet capture is a powerful tool for network and security administrators to intercept a data packet that is traveling over a specific computer network. Packet capture is used for identifying security flaws, identification of data leakage, troubleshooting, identifying data/packet loss and forensics.

    The powerful Firepower 9300 Firewall by Cisco Systems, Inc. is the industry's first physical and virtual security solution that has been validated for securing service provider cloud and network functions virtualization environments. Hence, the need for packet capture becomes more important and critical tool for administrators.
