Disclosed is a method and system for optimally categorizing different modes of user availability for attending meetings. The method and system enables user to manage available time by allowing the user to categorize the mode of availability for meetings. The mode of availability of the user for the meetings can be such as, for example, meet in-person, telephone, video call, busy, etc.

In accordance with the method and system, the user is allowed to categorize the mode of availability for each calendar event and blocks of free time. The categorizes selected depict the method by which the user is available.

In an exemplary scenario, as shown in figure 1, the method and system allows the user to select a category of availability of presence for each calendar event. At an instance when two adjacent availabilities occurs, it is automatically considered to be of same category. At another instance when two adjacent meetings at different locations during

a travel occur, then the user is allowed to select a start time of the travel and categorize the user's availability before, during and after the travel time.
