Abstract

The disclosed system provides users a personalized rating of vendors, showing whether each particular vendor will attempt to deliver goods by drone and the likelihood that the delivery to the user's location could be disrupted by weather for the user's delivery timeframe. The system asks the user for a timeframe in which the user requests delivery, and the system utilizes both current weather patterns and historical data to calculate weather risk for delivery by drone. A high risk may be associated with forecast for impending bad weather in the delivery timeframe. Particularly for a lengthy delivery timeframe (weeks or months in the future), a medium risk may be associated with the likelihood that bad weather could occur based on historical weather data for expected drone delivery time/date in the user's geography.

Disclosed is a system to provide users a personalized rating of vendors, showing whether each particular vendor will attempt to deliver goods by drone and the likelihood that the delivery to the user's location could be disrupted by weather for the user's delivery timeframe.

As background, consider that Internet vendors are promising that they will soon be delivering goods by drone. When comparing multiple vendors that provide goods or services for similar price, the user might compare vendors using customer service and quality ratings. When several vendors appear to be equal from the available ratings as well as in price, the user may choose somewhat randomly between seemingly comparable vendors. However it is not always the case that the vendors are comparable in the ability to deliver on time to a particular user, because sometimes delivery is delayed by weather conditions. Similar to other aspects of delivery (e.g shipping costs or shipping promotions), Internet vendors may advertise or otherwise inform customers of delivery by drone. If the vendor has delivery by drone, a delivery might be delayed for weather reason. In some cases, the drone must wait for bad weather to pass, while in other cases the vendor decides to transfer goods to a delivery van instead of attempting delivery by drone. In either case, the delivery is late due to bad weather.

The disclosed system shows the delivery rating to the user, as another piece of comparison data for consideration before the user makes a purchase. In an example embodiment, the user sees the rating in the User Interface along with other product price and rating information. The system displays a rating, which takes into account the user's delivery timeframe and both the current weather patterns and historical data to calculate weather risk for delivery by drone in the user's location.
