Disclosed is a method and system for visually showing/filtering recipe items based on user's food inventory profile.

Figure 1 illustrates the method steps for visually showing/filtering recipe items based on user's food inventory profile.

To start with, the system creates a user inventor profile using Items from a "connected refrigerator", Pantry, Shopping cart and Manual Input by the user as illustrated in Figure 2

Thereafter, once the user visits a website, the system detects if the website contains a recipe. In an instance, the system can detect the recipe by performing natural language processing on the website content. If the website contains a recipe, system parses the recipe to capture individual recipe items.

Thereafter, the system maps the recipe items on the webpage with inventory of products belonging to the user's inventory profile. In an instance, the system may perform cognitive analysis for the mapping the items so as to understand various substitutes for a given recipe item.

Based on the mapping, the system determines if the user has all of recipe items necessary to make a recipe. Accordingly, each individual recipe item is styled to reflect a current status of the user's inventory. In an instance this can be done by manipulating the DOM/style of the listed recipe items.
