Abstract

A technique for controlling movement of a patient handling table of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system and locating a scanning target is disclosed. According to the technique described herein, a ruler having required accuracy is mounted along one edge of the table. The ruler is used to read the scanning target location. The ruler is also used to determine and mark values for movement of the table. According to one embodiment, movement of the table is executed through a voice control system. A command of the voice control system comprises two elements, a first element for direction of movement and a second element for magnitude of movement.

BACKGROUND

 

The present disclosure relates generally to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and more particularly to a method for controlling movement of an MRI table and locating scanning target.

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) routine includes two positioning operations. One operation is positioning of a table and a second operation is locating a scanning target. Generally, movement of the table in and out of a gantry for positioning is controlled through a panel of buttons by manual operation. For locating the scanning target, conventional techniques use a laser.

These two operations are conventionally performed separately, which translates to two separate efforts and corresponding time being spent on both. Further, lasers are harmful for eyes of patients and any person in the vicinity.

It would be desirable to have an improved method for controlling movement of an MRI table and locating a scanning target.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

Figure 1 depicts a technique for locating and moving a scanning target in towards a gantry of a magnetic resonance imaging system.

Figure 2 is a flow chart depicting implementation of voice control to realize movement of a table of the MRI system.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

A technique for controlling movement of a patient handling table of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system and locating a scanning target is disclosed.  According to the technique described herein, a ruler having required accuracy is mounted along one edge of the table. The ruler is used to read the scanning target location. The ruler is also used to determine and mark values for movement of the table.

According to one embodiment, movement of the table is executed through a voice control system. A command of the voice control system comprises two elements, a first element for direction of movement (“in” or “out” indicating inward or outward movement with respect to a gantry of the MRI system) and a second element for magnitude of movement. The magnitude of movement is indicated as a mark on the ruler. For example, the command is, “in read_out_location_value”
