Executive Summary:

    The solution disclosed prevents traffic grid lock issues in the cities by giving decisive power to intersections. In the city where each car specifies its destination and communicates its position -we are able to interconnect Smart Road Signs and Smart Traffic Lights using a networked grid. Each intersection has a decisive power to shape the direction and throughput of traffic with respect to congestion levels at neighbouring intersections. The decision made by this network is then transmitted to each car .

Background and Problem Statement:
Traffic congestion is global issue, with many drivers in larger cities spending

tens of hours in traffic per year. London ranks at the top of most congested City in Europe, with Ireland in the top ten most congested countries in Europe : http://uk.businessinsider.com/cities-with-the-worst-traffic-in-europe-2016-3

    While infrastructure is constantly being improved upon by adding lanes, roundabouts, bus-only and contra-flow lanes -we are only addressing localised bottlenecks with little vision of the traffic flow as a whole.

Known Solutions and Drawbacks:

    There are number of other solutions in the area of quickest/shortest path, including solutions which respect real-time congestion data. None of those solutions attempt to manipulate entire traffic management infrastructure but instead, inform the individual driver of potentially quicker roots. When the issue is addressed at infrastructure level, congestion is relived overall throughout the city -instead of improving upon known hot spots -hence creating new hot spots elsewhere. Summary of the disclosed solution

    - Each driver communicates its final destination and real time location & lane information.

    - Each intersection system is connected to neighbouring intersection systems.

- Intersection system consists of Smart Traffic Light and Smart Roadsign.

- Each vehicle is connected via mesh network.

    - This mesh network of vehicles intercommunicates information each one has received in relation to the path they should take to optimise the overall throughput of traffic at each intersection.


- Smart Traffic Light -display based traffic light, where per lane instructions

are possible.

    - Each vehicle receives its own direction from the Smart Traffic Network and this information is relayed through the mesh network so other cars learn of nearby car's next action(s).
