Tool to Update Security in Business Intelligence Metadata Models

Existingbusiness intelligence (BI) modeling tools use various software solutions, either proprietary or third party, to implement security (e.g., Access Manager*, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Active Directory(AD), etc.), by creating security namespaces and enabling a user to control access to an object, package, or data. At any moment, clients have to migrate from one security solution to another (e.g., from LDAP to AD) following a business decision.

The novel contribution is a tool/algorithmthat guarantees an accurate and fast way to update the security context of the existing metadata model by identifying and updating the unique security identifiers. It is about taking from the model the core security constructs, related to the old authentication service provider, validating, and re-building those against the new authentication service provider, and then finally replacing/updating the same in the model.

The purpose of the tool is to perform the security update for the metadata modeling objects . The input is a metadata model text/Extensible Markup Language (XML) file, and the output is a new updated metadata model text/XML file.

The tool searches for the security identifiers in the source namespace, and then searches in the target namespace for validation. Once found, it builds new security constructs and replaces said security identifiers in the model. As the model files can h...
