When using electric bikes as a form of transportation several issues can arise, bikes with insufficient charge to complete the journey, lack of bikes at the bike pick up station or bikes that lack range to accomplish the total journey.

A method is proposed to have all electric bike stations cellular linked to form a large scale network of bike repositories. The information passed back to the operator would enable them to monitor the health and number of bikes at each station. Utilizing an Application based navigation system connected to the information coming back from the network of bike stations you could allow customers to plan total journeys with the knowledge that the bike stations would have and reserve the bike(s) they require to accomplish the journey planned in the navigation application.

Method

As an example consider a journey from one side of the city to the other totaling 3 km, each bike fully charged can accomplish 1 km on average depending on load and gradients travelled.

Customer downloads the Total Journey navigation Application to their smart phone and launches it. They enter their start point and end point and estimated load into the application and it then plots their journey based on required charge to accomplish the total Journey (varies depending on route due to hills), availability of bikes at all stations between start and finish points and the state of charge of the bikes...
