Disclosed is a method and system that use cognitive/analytics components to identify potential conflicts for resources or other negative affects among newly scheduled and existing events in a shared calendar in the cloud platform. The system proactively alerts users to any conflicts for resources and suggests alternate locations, dates, and/or times in order to efficiently share resources and improve user experiences.

Resources such as offices, parking lot, restaurants, restrooms, and so forth are shared by many people in a single location. The efficient or inefficient use of these shared resources can affect an individual's experience at a given place and time . A common problem occurs when different people plan to use locations with shared resources without considering how it either directly or indirectly affects others. For example, one company in a shared office building holds a large meeting that consumes parking space for other tenants and prevents others from using common conference areas . This could also extend to create traffic congestion or overcrowding in nearby restaurants. Situations may vary from an individual being disturbed by a noisy atmosphere, which brings the cost of distractions, or competing public transportation resources to get to a conference center. Inefficiently managed events and the associated logistics cause problems and negative experiences for not only the persons directly involved in the event, but also people in proximity to the event that might be sharing resources (e.g., public transportation, parking, etc.).

A system and method is needed to provide efficient management of shared resources based on calendar entries (i.e., a smart calendar). The focus must be on the improvement the individual's experience while visiting or using a location (e.g., office building) that is shared with other people and contains common shared resources.

The solution introduces a cloud platform that leverages calendars and common resources to be used with wisdom , allowing users to be less affected by concurrent or simultaneous access to common shared resources in a location , mainly for people not directly bound to the targeted meeting. The idea is to improve the user's experience while attending a meeting at certain locations, reduce resource utilization conflicts based on concurrent or simultaneous utilization, and increase and share access to participants' calendars for future events.

The novel method and system use cognitive/analytics components to identify potential conflicts for resources or other negative affects among newly scheduled and existing events in a shared calendar in the cloud platform . The system proactively alerts users to any conflicts for resources and suggests alternate locations, dates, and/or times in order to efficiently share resources and improve user experiences. The method and system are based on a smart calendar engine that invites and brings new users to the platform in order to share calendar availability. The system uses that information for future/additional event scheduling to take into consideration resource utilization at a plurality of related locations.
