Abstract

For security considerations, we always need to set the login password when we use computers, mobile phones, tablet and other electronic devices. This invention provides a new, secure and software-only method for fast locking/unlocking electronic devices without any additional physical hardware requirements. This method is to use a combination of screen area division and clicks to unlock device. This invention not only can be apply to mobile phones, tablets and other intelligent electronic devices with a touchscreen, but also can be apply to laptop with a touchpad, or any intelligent devices with a mouse.

A new and secure method for fast locking/unlocking electronic devices

This invention provides a new, secure and software-only method for fast locking/unlocking electronic devices without any additional physical hardware requirements. This invention not only can be apply to mobile phones, tablets and other intelligent electronic devices with a touchscreen, but also can be apply to laptop with a touchpad, or any intelligent devices with a mouse.

In a crowded public areas, other people can easily peep and steal your password when you try to unlock cellphone or pad when you are using alphabet password or the 3x3 matrix on mobile phone devices . But it's not easy to remember the pattern and logic when you click different areas on the screen.

The core idea of this invention are as following:
1) Determine the input information by the number, the frequency and the interval of the clicks on a screen or a touch panel. For example:
i. Click on the screen with a certain frequency.

ii. The user habits also can be defined as the pattern, such as click frequency and click interval.

2) Screen and touch pad can be divided into several areas, such as(but not limited to) six equal parts, or nine areas according to the specific graph.

Using the method mentioned in 1) and 2) together to define/determine the password to lock/unlock electronic devices.

The advantages of this method:


1) Reduces the risk for the password being peeped or stolen by others compared with using alphabet or 3x3 matrix kind of password, especially when using phones or pad in the public areas.

2) No need for any additional physical equipment.

3) It has high security level while at the same time has the flexibility to unlock the devices very fast. In order to make it easy to unlock the device fastly and easy to remember the password, assuming that for each unit of the input information(one input tuple) has no more than 4 clicks, if we divided the input screen/touchpad into 9 areas, the encryption/decryption complexity(to exhaust all possibilities) is (9*4) ^9=101559956668416; if for each unit of input information has no more than 3 clicks, the encryption/decryption complexity(to exhaust all posibilities) is (9*3) ^9=7625597484987.
