Abstract

Disclosed is a system that simultaneously monitors the running of audio/video content and the user’s interaction with the keyboard to detect when the user is taking notes while running video and audio clips on the computer. When the system detects that the user is typing, it not only slows playback to support note-taking, but also timestamps the beginning and ending of the slowed playback to enable the user to later review the same.

Notes Taking Enhancement with Audio and Video System

When a person takes notes while listening to audio or watching video with audio content, focusing on both and capturing all the necessary detailed information is a challenge. The user must repeatedly pause and replay the tracks while taking notes in order to capture all the desired information. This practice is not efficient.

The novel solution is a system that analyzes and monitors the user's current typing pattern as the user interacts with a video/audio system. The system slows the video and audio playback when it detects that the user is typing. Further, the system can capture the clip of video and audio for replay purposes, which allows the user to take notes that are more comprehensive at later time.

This system applies when the user is entering notes through the keyboard of the same computer that is running the video/audio content (i.e., not hand-written note). This system allows the user to integrate personal notes with the existing video and audio clips. When the user begins typing, the system identifies the associated content as an important clip or segment.

The components and process for implementing the notes taking enhancement with audio and video system follow. To begin, the system integrates with the computer at the operating system (OS) level, so that it can detect the user's interactions with the computer. In process, the system:

1. Simultaneously monitors the running of audio/video content and the user's interaction with the keyboard; it detects whether the user is taking notes while running video and audio clips on the computer.

2. Identifies that the user starts taking notes and marks the start timestamp of the video/audio clip

3. Continues...
