Often, if a person is experiencing trouble with a vehicle (e.g., broken down, in for servicing, etc.) social media is a place to share frustrations and explain the problem. This could also indicate that the person is in need of a means of transportation to work, school, etc. A system is needed that can analyze social media posts, identify when a user is discussing the problems with a vehicle, lack of transportation, etc., and then help the user find transportation.

The novel contribution is a ride request alert. The ride request alert is based on the global positioning system (GPS) location of the person who needs the transportation, the destination, and/or the time the person needs the ride. The friend can then decide

whether to give the user a ride.

Posts in some of the major social networking sites such are used to determine ride requests. Text analytics is used to determine if the post made by a person is regarding a car break down, missing the bus, request for a ride, etc. The system uses text analytics rules and dictionaries to identify these kinds of requests and determines

whether the user is requesting a ride. Once it is determined that the post is for a ride request, the system acquires the GPS locations of the friends.
