A System and Method for Offering Marketing Promotions to Motor Vehicle Occupants Based on the Data from Vehicle Sensors

To provide benefits to consumers and increase revenue as part of a marketing strategy , businesses offer targeted coupons based on a different sets of parameters. Potential consumers that are travelling in motor vehicles present an opportunity for targeted marketing.

A method is needed to facilitate targeted marketing, such as offering deals and promotions, to passengers travelling in a motor vehicle.

The novel contribution is an intelligent system and method that uses data about specific vehicle occupants , as well as the associated/current location, to better target a marketing tactic (e.g., distribute deals, discounts, packages, etc.).

The system can use seat sensor technology to determine the number of occupants in a vehicle . It can use speech recognition to identify the number of male, female, and child passengers, as well. Global Positioning System (GPS) technology reveals the location of the vehicle. With this information, businesses can better target customers to whom to send coupons.

As prerequisites for implementation, vehicles are equipped with seat sensors and a software platform in each vehicle works as a provider and a client to a common interface.

Software running in the vehicle provides the user the option to register for a service via a public service provider and interface. Both the offer recipient (i.e., consumer) and the offer provider (i.e., business) register for the service via the public service provider, and provide certain details and call back service details. The software running in vehicle provides a configuration option to automatically receive the deals or pull the deals on demand. The business interacts with the common interface to get the parameters as well as to feed discount coupons. The public service provider constructs the list of deals for the customers (i.e., registered vehicle users) by matching business and customer parameters. For example, a business can register multiple deals (e.g., 50% discount for dining when the number of passengers is greater than four, 20% discount for dining when the number of passengers is less than two, etc.). The vehicle software broadcasts the details to the public service provider. The public service provider sends notification to all the registered businesses applicable for the specific location .
