The present IP.COM gives examples of cosmetic water-in-oil (W/O) sunscreen formulations comprising hydrophilic thickeners in the internal water phase:


• Tinovis GTC: Acrylates/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Copolymer


• Rheocare TTA: Acrylates Copolymer


• Cosmedia SP: Sodium Polyacrylate


• Rheocare C Plus: carbomer


• Hispagel 200: Glyceryl (and) Glyceryl Polyacrylate


• Cosmedia ACE: Sodium Polyacrylate, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Polyglyceryl-3 Caprate


• Luvigel EM: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (and) Sodium Acrylates Copolymer

Adding hydrophilic thickeners in the internal water phase of a continuous oil phase emulsion was shown to improve the overall physical stability and to improve the skin feeling by removing unpleasant and sticky sensory profile provided by W/O emulsions. A sensory feeling that is neither sticky nor greasy will increase on one hand sand repellency and on the other hand increase compliance and results in a better protection of the sunscreen user. Moreover, the continous oil phase also provides water resistancy.

Thess types of emulsions can be called as a Gel-in-Oil type emulsion.

(1): with a primar particle size lower than 100nm, coating choosen between: alumina and/or steatic acid and/or trimethoxycaprylylsilane and/or aluminium hydroxide and/or silica and/or aluminum stearate and/or simethicone

(2): Z Cote or Z Cote HP1 or Z Cote LSA
