Abstract

A marine instrument is provided that can be viewed in multiple orientations (including portrait mode and landscape mode) is provided. The marine display is for displaying information such as chart information, fish-finder, GPS information, speed information, wind information, depth information, multimedia information and other information that may be useful to a mariner. The display may be mounted permanently on a boat in landscape or portrait orientation according to the preference of the user. Abstract:

A marine instrument is provided that can be viewed in multiple orientations (including portrait mode and landscape mode) is provided.  The marine display is for displaying information such as chart information, fish-finder, GPS information, speed information, wind information, depth information, multimedia information and other information that may be useful to a mariner.  The display may be mounted permanently on a boat in landscape or portrait orientation according to the preference of the user.  Alternatively, the display could have an adjustable mounting which allows the user to change the orientation of the display.

Description:

The instrument may be either permanently mounted to the boat in whichever orientation the user prefers, or may be temporarily mounted and the user can select the orientation depending on the current usage of the device.  The instrument may even have an adjustable bracket that allows the user to easily switch orientation. 

The contents of the screen of the display will change according to the mounting orientation.  The orientation can be determined either automatically or by user setting.  Some methods for determining the orientation include:
