Abstract

Disclosed is an efficient method for determining the current Internet connection bandwidth. The novel solution uses an external intermediate Bluetooth* interface between the connection line in a home and the wireless router to check or speculate the network bandwidth while the connection is active, and then notifies the user, via a Bluetooth connection to an associated mobile device, of the available bandwidth.

A user does not always know that the Internet connection bandwidth (i.e., from the

wireless router connected to the devices) is lower than the threshold or is not working at optimum speed. To obtain this information, the user must manually open the device and inspect the speed, speculate, or consult a website for that purpose. This results in an unnecessary waste of time and resources, which is avoidable with some intermediate interface that can notify the user prior to opening a device.

Existing wireless routers do not interface with any Bluetooth device in order to pre-check the network bandwidth and notify the user prior to connecting to the router.

The novel solution uses an external intermediate Bluetooth* interface between the connection line in a home and the wireless router to check or speculate the network bandwidth while the connection is active. The system then notifies the user via a Bluetooth connection to an associated mobile device.

To implement the system in a preferred embodiment:

1. An external Bluetooth interface connected next to the modem inspects the network bandwidth

2. The said Bluetooth device continuously polls the network bandwidth as soon as the user connects the phone via Bluetooth to the device
