Extensible Framework for Searching Software Package from One or Many Distros

Finding software that is available from distro repositories takes time, especially if the user wants to search in more than one distro.

This novel tool allows users to search software across multiple distros. The framework of this tool is also extensible; it is easy to add more distros. This is applicable to many platforms. It is possible to open-source this tool so that any available distro can add itself by contributing code.

Through a web interface, a user inputs the software for which to search and selects the distro in which to perform the search . The tool returns results, if something is found or nothing is found. The backend comprises of two parts,

1. Getting information from the distro, which varies depending on which distro, it generates a standard data file (e.g., JavaScript* Object Notation (JSON))

2. Parsing and filtering the data file to produce the search results

This tool makes the process of searching distros for software fast and easy .
