Automated Paper Payment Image Processing and Payment Tracking

Disclosed is a method for automated paper payment image processing, payment tracking, and invoice generation. Various payments, such as rent, are often paid by check. Tracking of payments by check are often done manually. Instead of processing the information from the check by manually entering the information into a specialized application, this disclosure describes a method, a system, or a computer program product that extracts the information and processes the information automatically.

    An example embodiment of the disclosed method may be a service or application that receives check images and analyzes them for payment tracking information. The service automates payment tracking and generates invoices for businesses and users registered with the service. Optical character recognition (OCR) is run against the check to determine the payment information including name, date, and amount. Also the checking account information may be used to identify the person paying the check. In the example embodiment, a file containing customers' information is maintained by the application. That file is searched for a matching name and a balance owed to a business. Confirmation may utilize a second search to match the customer address and the business address.
