Currently, a lot of innovation in cloud based applications takes advantage of a hybrid cloud environment. For example, a multi-tier day trading application can break into multiple tiers and resides in both private (on premise) and pubic (off premise) cloud regions to take advantage of both regions. A hybrid cloud utilizes both private and public cloud operations, while keeping the multiple data centers (cloud infrastructure regions) independent of each other with ability to communicate and transport data to and from each other.

The transportation process is done by encrypting the data, and then sending the data through a public network. The encryption takes more processor overhead. Thus, many cloud providers only offer basic encryption which results vulnerability in a customer's data. To optimize the security of data, many costumer choose to encrypt all of the data being transported which results in more expenses and a longer encryption time. Overall, there is a lack of stability in the transportation of data in a hybrid cloud, and the security of the data can be improved greatly.
