Using Hashtag Compilation to Build Related Topic Map

Hashtags are a way of connecting social media and are used to easily map and identify social output to ideas and concepts. Currently, hashtags require a significant amount of precision to work correctly. If related terms are used in the tweet or other social channels, there is no way to easily link the hashtags as separate concepts or process relationships as a compilation. Between different groups, hashtags can have slightly different meanings and occasionally people can misinterpret the meaning.

A solution is required that can connect multiple hashtag concepts, display one or many hashtags, and provide easy relationship evaluation.

The core idea of the novel solution is to create a mashup hashtag that contains two or more related concepts in the form of a singular hashtag. When a particular user uses the hashtag sub-concepts in tweets or social media, the user can use any combination or all of the principle hashtags from the mashup hashtag. When the hashtags are then analyzed, the sub-hashtags are understood as related to the mashup hashtag and can be rolled-up in terms of statistics and trending hashtags.

This still requires some level of precision to prevent strange combinations of words, each of which could be broken into sub-concepts. The idea is to provide a mechanism that enables the compilation hashtag to function as a regular hashtag and show in a trending hashtag set.

At a high-level, the implementation begins with an existing hashtag that contains multiple components/conceptions. The method is to then:


1. Reduce the composite hashtag to its principle components


2. Enable the user to use the singular or composite components of the hashtag


3. Track the relationship between the singular components over time

Users can also dynamically create compilation hashtags. These could be similarly linked to existing hashtags or broken...
