Background: In SaaS world, especially a multi-tenant web application it's very essential to understand the user pulse and take proactive steps to stay ahead of the competition curve by solving the actual user problems. There are web analytics' tool that give insights into 'what' is the problem but may not exactly tell 'why' is that a problem. Also, the internal bug repository may be telling a lot about the problematic areas in the application. Applying analytics to draw meaning insights from these sources does add lot of value.

Problem: Like many web applications, page/application-wide feedback mechanism (ratings, comments) can be provided for users to share their feedback. Along with that periodic inline surveys can be conducted. On the vendor side, various insights can be drawn from that feedback data and also from the application bug repository. It's not so straight forward, but even doing all these may not give the exact picture to the product engineering teams, especially product managers and software developers where they need to focus more and more importantly where (which features) they need to be careful where touching the code. If an interactive, inline (overlaid) metrics can be shown at a granular level of feature/link/HTML tag, that provides a very accurate pitch for the stakeholders to work on.

A dynamic in-line overlay view will be presented to the end-user to file bugs/defects directly, that are specific to a feature/hyperlink/HTML object (by activating the overlay mode and clicking on the specific object)

Same overlay view can be used to provide feedback very specific to such an HTML object
