Abstract

This invention present a new technology of bar code label, which utilizes the specular reflection of laser, by that, the data density on a bar code label can be greatly improved, and the reading speed can be improved as well. Briefly, this invention claims a new kind of bar code label based on specular reflection of laser, and a kind of bar code reader (scanner) based on specular reflection of laser, and methods of making the bar code label based on specular reflection of laser.

Bar Code Label based on Specular Reflection of Laser

Bar code label technologies is widely used in many scopes. The typical types of the bar code include one-dimensional bar code and two-dimensional bar code.

The data density or capacity of the current bar code is very limited. For example, one one-dimensional bar code can only store at most dozens of digits or characters; one two-dimensional bar code can only store at most around 2,000 bytes.

The current limitation is made by the nature characteristics of the current bar code technologies. First, it is limited by the printing technologies, the data density on the bar code cannot beyond the printing precision, by using ink or dye. Second, it is limited by the bar code reading or scanning technologies, for laser scanning method, or CCD ( Charge-Coupled Device, a type of image sensor) imaging method, the bar code reader or scanner retrieve the data stored in the label by distinguishing and parsing the geometric drawing, and actually, it utilizes the diffuse reflection of nature light or laser beam, an advantage of these current technologies is that the direction and inclination of reading and scanning is not exactly fixed, people can get the data from left side, and can also get the same data from right side, but that also means that the data density cannot beyond the resolution ratio of the optical imaging.

It is urgently needed to store and present much more data on the bar code label, but the current bar code technologies limited the density, so, to achieve the goal, some new working principles and methods have to be came up.

Summary

This invention present a new technology of bar code label, which utilizes the specular reflection of laser, by that, the data density on a bar code label can be greatly improved, and the reading speed can be improved as well.

Briefly, this invention claims a new kind of bar code label based on specular reflection of laser, and a kind of bar code reader (scanner) based on specular reflection of laser, and methods of making the bar code label based on specular reflection of laser.

On this kind of bar code label, each data area (bar) is very narrow, an example width is only 0.32 μm, there are two kinds of the data bar, and one kind of the bar can make available specular reflection for laser beam, while another cannot do that. By the different reflecting result, the binary data '0' and '1' can be distinguished and presented.

In this kind of bar code reader, there is a laser generator which generates the laser to irradiate the bar code data area, an example of the wavelength of the laser is 405 nm; there is also a laser receiver which receives laser beam reflected by a data area of the bar code label.

By the technology of specular reflection of laser, the data can be stored by a very smaller unit, much more data can be stored on a bar code label than before. For example, by this method, a one-dimensional bar code, which width is 3 cm, can stores around...
