Abstract

Disclosed is a cognitive system for product matching based on user profile governance and geographic location. The system provides solutions and/or recommendations for local products and services that meet a user’s needs when the options with which the user is familiar (i.e., what the person can find at home) are not immediately apparent or available in the current location.

Cognitive Product Match Based on Profile Governance and Geographic Location

A person that is traveling abroad might have difficulty finding certain products (e.g., preferred foods, medications, etc.) or services that are comparable to what is found at home. A particular item might not exist or be readily available, or have a different name or description, which one unfamiliar with the area or culture would not know. Language and cultural barriers cause difficulty when a person is searching for a specific item or service in a new area.

The most common approach to find the item or service is for the person to perform an internet search , which can be time consuming. The user can find many options that way; however, not all the options might be suitable, due to the individual's physiology, allergies, tolerance to certain substances, etc.

A method is needed to assist persons traveling to an unknown region who are searching for a substitute for or best match to the desired products that meet individual needs (e.g., meals, nutrition, medications, clothes, beverages, personal care, etc.

The novel contribution is a cognitive system for product matching based on user profile governance and geographic location . The system provides solutions and/or recommendations for local products and services that meet a user's needs when the options with

which the user is familiar (i.e., what the person can find at home) are not immediately apparent or available.

The system builds a profile of a person's unique preferences, physiology, and metabolism. Using a cognitive approach, the system analyzes the elements of the desired products to understand the best available options based on the profile governance . The system can then identify available products that meet the needs and desires of the user , and have those matches be as close as possible to the person's native experiences.

The user of this system has a defined profile that includes all the person's interests , preferences, considerations, and restrictions (e.g., allergies, dietary requirements, or any other biological incompatibility). This profile is kept updated with the interaction of social and public data of the user.

In addition, the system includes a list of requirements, such as products or services that a person may need. It ingests this information using a cognitive engine with several associated information sources including the customer profile , medical records, preferences, likes, among others.

The system uses geographic location to match the requirements with available options that fulfill the user's needs . This match is
