This cognitive approach to road trip planning applications not only considers all of the common parameters and preferences, but also variables such as the number of passengers, the type of car, road conditions, the driver's background, fuel price, weather, etc., and makes route recommendations based on dynamic changes to incoming data.

Road travelers and tourists use driving plan and trip assistant applications, of varying grades and quality, to help establish the most efficient route with the preferred accommodations (e.g., rest stops, restaurants, toll/non-toll roads, gas stations, traffic conditions, etc.). Most solutions address some of these parameters, but not all; in addition, no existing applications take into consideration variables such as the number of passengers, make of the vehicle, road conditions, weather conditions, etc. The availability of detailed information would be helpful not only to the driver, but also to automobile insurance companies that prefer a driver travel the safest route in the best conditions.
The novel solution introduces a Cognitive Driving Planner , a driving planner based on route, driver, and passenger optimization. This cognitive approach to road trip planning apps not only considers all of the common parameters and preferences, but also variables such as the number of passengers, the type of car, road conditions, the driver's background, fuel price, weather, etc. This approach is considered a mutual accommodation between the drivers and the insurance providers, as it provides the best possible driving experience.
In the Cognitive Driving Planner, each member of a traveling group (e.g., family, school group, etc.) has a profile comprised of various parameters. Parameters can include,
but are not limited to, length of time a person is willing to ride between breaks, desire to see particular landmarks, appropriate activities, special needs, etc. Using its Recommendation System, based on the travelers' profiles, the Cognitive Driving Planner helps plan the initial route. The Recommendation System can also take into consideration recommendations from other travelers with similar profiles (e.g., for hotels, activities, restaurants, etc.). As the trip progresses, the system updates recommendations based on changing variables such as traffic and weather information. It might also learn that the status of a hotel or restaurant has changed (e.g., closed, changed hours, etc.) and alter the plan based on this new information.
To determine a stopping location, for example, the Recommendation System can use the following data (but is not limited to these):
• Distance to cover in given journey • Actual drive Time required and time at hand
• Weather • Time of travel • Traffic situation, road\exit closures • Type of roads in journey (village, highway etc.) • Car Condition • Fuel level • Fuel Prices • Passenger age group
• Available stops on the journey route

• Amenities available on those stops
• Passengers driving history, driving style (highway, local roads, off road, etc.), frequency of stops etc.
