Disclosed is a method and system for coordinating interaction between static IoT objects, typically sensors, and mobile devices for facilitating the movement of an individual in a known area. The system supplements existing systems by enabling users to filter different geographic and static sensor layers based on attributes that the user wants to use to navigate.

The Internet of Things (IoT) consists of one or more distributed devices that interact
with each other. Currently the devices are mostly sensors collecting and transmitting data. New technology is constantly being introduced that supports the integration of smart devices with fixed or static sensors to facilitate collecting data and performing actions. In the case of vision impaired individuals, smart devices with the ability to interact with IoT devices could assist them in navigating streets and cities.
As the impaired individual approaches an intersection or crosswalk, the individuals'
smart device would recognize an intelligent crosswalk is within range. By indicating that an individual wants to cross the crosswalk, the individuals' smart device would interact
with the traffic control system to request that the crosswalk signal change permitting them to cross the street. The key is on improving safety and improved navigation for impaired individuals.
There may be a scenario in near future, where a user may need to interact with many IoT devices, which may make it difficult for the user to determine which devices and data are important to support a needed request or function.
The method and system disclosed herein coordinates interaction between static IoT objects, typically sensors, and mobile devices and facilitates movement of an individual in a known area. The system supplements existing systems by coordinating the interaction of the user with the existing systems to enable navigation based on specific data attributes (for example, traffic lights or crosswalks).
In accordance with the system, a set of static sensors or IoT objects are registered with a centralized service for a location and along with other identifying attributes including object type (crosswalk, building, etc.). Additionally, a second set of devices such as mobile devices are associated with an individual who is, for example, navigating along a sidewalk in a city.
The mobile IoT devices coordinate with the centralized service to identify fixed devices that are within a defined proximity. Once within a specified range, the fixed and mobile devices coordinate directly with each other via Bluetooth, NFC, or other means as established by the fixed device in the centralized service.
The static devices perform as programmed until an interrupt is received from a central service initiated by a request from an authorized mobile device. On receiving the interrupt, the static devices recognize that a mobile device is within range and that a request has been made. It then responds to the request performing the appropriate action. The static devices then notify the mobile device that the command has been executed and terminates the interaction. The mobile device notifies a user to let them know that the command has been executed.
