DLS and other parameters would be set to avoid high DLS and continuous downlinks. The goal will be to maximize ROP in the reservoir while minimizing downlinks, manual adjustments.

Description:

Using this methodology, the practice would consist of landing a well into a reservoir or formation and recording the gamma ray response of both the reservoir and the formation above and/or below The set point would be to remain + or - a given API or count rate from the Gamma Ray. The tool then begins to monitor the gamma ray azimuthally and can make adjustments + or - inclination, azimuth or DLS set by the user or automatically detected. This allows the tool to have automated functionality to remain within the formation.

Other measurements may be used to steer the BHA such as Resistivity, NMR, Density, Porosity, etc. as long as they can communicate with the steering unit in an azimuthal capacity.

An earth model along the well trajectory with computed tool response may be used for the set points.
